Report: Facebook, Amazon, YouTube among bidders for 'TNF' streaming rights

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The biggest tech companies on the planet are in the running to buy the online streaming rights to the NFL's "Thursday Night Football" package in 2017.

Recode's Kurt Wagner reports Facebook, Amazon, YouTube (Google) and 2016 rights holder Twitter have all submitted proposals to the NFL for the rights.

Twitter won the bidding in 2016, paying a reported $10 million to stream 10 games.

The number of streamers for those games (which also aired on television on CBS/NBC/NFL Network, depending on the game) was disappointing, and it's possible the NFL will prefer moving from Twitter, which claims more than 300 million active users, to a larger platform like Facebook or YouTube.
