Former Michigan defensive back Jourdan Lewis has been charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend, according to John Counts of MLive.com, citing court records.

Lewis, projected to be selected within the first two rounds of the upcoming NFL draft, pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge of domestic violence Thursday afternoon, as reported by ESPN's Dan Murphy and Michael Rothstein.

Ann Arbor police were summoned to Lewis' residence after receiving a domestic violence call from his girlfriend at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

"It wasn't clear to the officers (Wednesday morning) if there was an assault, or who the aggressor was," Ann Arbor police detective Matthew Lige said to Counts.

Lewis was named a first-team All-American in consecutive seasons and starred at cornerback during his collegiate career.
