Balor's recovery from shoulder surgery to take longer than expected

WWE superstar Finn Balor went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in just a 24-hour span.

A day after relinquishing his newly won Universal Championship during the Aug. 22 edition of "Monday Night Raw," Balor went under the knife to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, with his recovery time initially set at up to six months.

There were some complications with the operation, though, and the damage to the shoulder was far worse than originally believed. As a result, the likelihood of Balor returning to the squared circle earlier than expected is slim to none.

"Any hopes of being back in four months I think are crushed, and it's gonna be at least six months of rehabilitation. Never in my life has six months felt like such a long time," Balor told WWE.com. "I don't really know how I'm going to cope with being out of the ring that long."

The injury occurred during his SummerSlam title bout at the Barclays Center against Seth Rollins, when Rollins powerbombed Balor into the ringside barricade.

His shoulder was dislocated because of the maneuver. However, Balor managed to pop it back in almost immediately in order to complete the match and become champion in just his third on-air appearance since being drafted to the main roster.
