Hours after a video surfaced of transferring Memphis guard K.J. Lawson saying "F--- Tubby" in reference to Tigers coach Tubby Smith, the redshirt freshman issued an apology for the incident.

"On behalf of my family and myself I would like to issue an apology to Coach Tubby Smith and Tiger Nation," Lawson wrote on Twitter. "Despite my frustrations of this past year, my words and actions at this time were immature, thoughtless, and not becoming of who I am as a person or how my family raised me. Memphis will forever be my home and I wish Coach Tubby Smith and Tiger Nation the best moving forward."

Lawson and his brother Dedric have already announced they are transferring to Kansas, away from their hometown program, as soon as the semester is finished.

K.J. averaged 12.3 points and 8.1 rebounds for Memphis this season, earning the American Athletic Conference rookie of the year award. Both he and his brother will be forced to sit out next season as per NCAA transfer regulations.
