Report: All-NBA teams to be announced before year-end awards due to DPE

The year-end awards for the NBA's 2016-17 regular season will be announced during a televised ceremony on June 26 in New York by TNT.

The All-NBA team members, however, will reportedly be revealed before then, according to The Washington Post's Tim Bontemps.

Because of the ramifications of the new Designated Player Exception (which goes into effect under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement on July 1), the league appears to be willing to announce the names of the 15 players on the three All-NBA teams in advance in order to avoid creating unnecessary problems.

A player qualifies for the DPE if he meets certain criteria, which includes being named to an All-NBA team, or receiving Most Valuable Player or Defensive Player of the Year honors. This can only occur, though, if the player is on the team that drafted him, or, at the very least, was traded while on their rookie contract.

With the awards ceremony taking place after this summer's NBA draft, it would be beneficial for teams to know who is eligible for the DPE in case trades or other moves need to be made.

With the DPE, a star talent can sign a larger contract than they'd normally receive otherwise.
