Angels designate Aaron Hicks for assignment

The Los Angeles Angels designated outfielder Aaron Hicks for assignment, the team announced Monday.

Hicks posted a paltry .140/.222/.193 slash line across 18 games with the club. The veteran joined the Angels in the offseason on a one-year contract worth the league minimum.

Hicks owns a career .713 OPS and 96 OPS+ over 12 MLB seasons. After struggling for years with the New York Yankees, the 34-year-old impressed following a midseason trade to the Baltimore Orioles in 2023.

The Angels selected the contract of Cole Tucker in a corresponding move. The infielder, once a highly regarded prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates system, has struggled across parts of five seasons in the major leagues since 2019.

Los Angeles will look for Tucker to provide a spark as it kicks off a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
