Baldelli 'all for' Twins' new summer sausage celebration

The Minnesota Twins might be responsible for the most unique celebration in baseball history - and manager Rocco Baldelli is on board with it.

"For anyone that hasn't been following, it's a substantial packaged sausage that (Ryan) Jeffers has been carrying around in his bag and throwing at people when we score runs and hit homers," Baldelli said Sunday, according to Bally Sports North.

"It's bringing us lots of hits and runs and stuff, so I'm all for it."

Twins infielder Kyle Farmer is responsible for the sausage first appearing in the team's clubhouse: He left it there as a possible snack for his teammates, according to Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Hitting coach David Popkins then brought the sausage into the dugout when the Twins were being shut out by the Chicago White Sox last Thursday. Minnesota rallied to win the contest and has been a run-scoring machine since, winning seven straight games.

While Baldelli is on board with the good luck charm, he admitted being "slightly concerned" about what would happen if someone on the team cracks open the package of the cured meat product.

"The package is going to open up, and the thing hasn't been refrigerated in many days, and there's no doubt that, when that thing opens up, whoever is touching it is in deep trouble," he said.

The skipper doesn't have anything to be worried about, though - there are preservatives inside the sausage that prevent it from spoiling without refrigeration during the hot summer months.
