Players, fans honor Fernandez ahead of Marlins' home game

MLB / Twitter

A day after baseball lost one of its most idolized and accomplished young talents, players, teammates, and members of the Miami community continued to grieve the loss of Jose Fernandez.

Fans attended a memorial outside of Marlins Park, which was already surrounded with a large number of souvenirs, pictures, and flowers remembering Fernandez's major-league career.

The Marlins will play for the first time without their ace on Monday against the New York Mets, and will don Fernandez's No. 16 in his honor.

The news of Fernandez's death sent shock waves throughout the league, as players, fans, and teammates paid their respects on Monday in memory of his substantial but all-too-brief impact on the game.
